To Fung Lim

Dizi virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, To joined the HKCO in 2021. He graduated fromThe Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts in 2018, majoring in dizi under the instruction of Sun Yongzhi,and minored in dongxiao under the instruction of Tam Po-shek, receiving numerous scholarships during his studies. To began learning the dizi as a child under the tutelage of Xu Rongguang and later studied under Lam Si-kwan and Choo Boon-chong. He has been named champion multiple times at contests for dizi and dongxiao performance hosted by the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association, and was achampion Chinese instrument soloist.


To actively performs in local orchestras and served as the Principal Dizi for the Hong Kong Youth Chineseorchestra, and a member of the Academy Chinese Orchestra of HKAPA. He has also collaborated with the Wind pipe Chinese Music Ensemble, Lok Sum Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Yao Yueh Chinese Music Association. In 2013, To performed the piece Splendorous Jiangnan as lead player at a concert held by the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra; the same year, he performed the solo A Wife’s Lament of Her Husband Far Away in a concert held by the Academy Chinese Orchestra. In 2015, To traveled to England to perform in a cultural exchange event on behalf of HKAPA;in the same year, he performed the dizi and erhu concerto The Airs of a Guest with the Academy Chinese Orchestra. In 2018, To collaborated with the Lok Sum Chinese Orchestra to perform the dizi duetconcerto The Sound of Nature. He has performed in England, Korea, Germany, Austria, Japan, and Singapore.


To is a well-rounded performer with a deep level of musical intuition and skill, coaxing rich and diver sesounds from his instrument. He is also highly dedicated to the work of teaching and promoting flute education, co-founding Hong Kong Dizi Lab in 2017 and serving as its vice president; he is committed tothe systematic integration of research and instruction of performance techniques, and intensive study offlute ensemble methodology.
