Zhongruan virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Ng joined the HKCO in 2021. Ng graduatedwith First-class honours from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majored in zhongruan and minored in yueqin under the tutelage of acclaimed yueqin and zhongruan performer Lei Qun’an. Ng received the 2017-2018 S C Leong Scholarship, the 2018-2019 First Initiative Foundation Scholarship, and the 2021-2022 Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund Scholarship.
Ng began learning zhongruan and liuqin at the age of nine under Du Zhaoming, and later earned first andsecond place in liuqin and zhongruan advanced study groups at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. In 2018, Ng received the gold award for liuqin and zhongruan performance and first place at the 3rd Malaysia Traditional Music Festival and Nanfeng International Music Competition. Ng passed the Central Conservatory of Music zhongruan performance exams with excellent marks and was then invitedto perform with other excellent examinees. In addition, Ng once served as the vice president of the Traditional Music Club of the Diocesan Boys’ School, and led the ensemble to participate in multiple competitions, arranged performances, and exchanges, for which they have won numerous awards.
Ng performs actively in Asia and Europe. He has made multiple trips to Slovakia, Singapore, Malaysia,Mainland China, and Taiwan for exchanges and performances. In December 2016, Ng joined the Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra in traveling to the He Luting Concert Hall in Shanghai to perform the zhongruan concerto In Remembrance of Yunnan; in 2019, he was invited by the Wind pipe Chinese Music Ensemble to participate in the ‘The Unearthly Serenade – The Art of Ruan in Hong Kong’ concert as a special guestperformer; in 2022 he gave a highly-praised performance of the solo Song of the Sun and the Moon at the Academy Chinese Orchestra Gala Concert – ‘A Sonic Banquet at the Moon Pavilion’. In addition, Ng wasonce a guest zhongruan performer for the Macao Chinese Orchestra and joined the ensemble at theirconcert. In 2019, Ng joined the professional orchestra internship programme co-organised by the HongKong Chinese Orchestra and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
